地鐵，用英語怎麼寫

地鐵根據國家的不同有不同的說法，傳統上來說在英國用的是underground，如倫敦地鐵=london underground，不過現在用這個說法的地方越來越少了。

比較常用的是美國式的subway，如紐約地鐵=New York City Subway，北京地鐵用的也是Beijing Subway；另外，源自法國地鐵常用的說法metro，也在很多國家普遍通用，如巴黎地鐵最早的時候叫做，Chemin de Fer Métropolitain，意思爲大都會鐵路，其中Métropolitain一詞既爲英文的Metropolitan，正因爲該說法，後來大家把地鐵簡稱爲metro了，上海地鐵用的正是Shanghai Metro的用法。在其他主要的英語使用國家也因爲實際地鐵的形式不同有其他的說法，如香港的地鐵叫MTR，英文是Mass Transit Railway，這是因爲香港的地鐵在市中心駛出之後，在九龍的一些地方是在地面行駛的，因此用了這種叫城市軌道交通的說法。

相同的情況在澳大利亞與新西蘭，也因爲當地的地鐵在除了會在城市中心在地下，在稍遠的郊區都會以路上鐵路的形式出現。如悉尼的Sydney Tarin和奧克蘭的Auckland CRL(city rail link)，都是以“火車”和“城軌”的說法來一併感擴了他們的地鐵交通系統。
